Saturday 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st January – Park Run (5k), various locations with 50+ events across Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and South Wales. Visit the Park Run website to find one near you.
*Thursday 1st January – The Chard Flyer 10k, Chard (south of Taunton). This road 10k race starts at Stringfellow Park and takes in a loop around around Chard Reservoir. As with the majority of Somerset Series races there is some decent scenery to look at. Organised by the Chard Road Runners, you can enter now at Race Nation.
Saturday 3rd January – Run & Rave, Bristol. Expect big tunes on this 5k around the Harbourside. Run & Rave has been tearing it up in Brighton. Now it’s Bristol’s turn. Check out the Run & Rave website for full details.
Saturday 3rd January – Midsomer Norton Town Park 5k Run, Somerset. This is a free, timed 5k Community Run in Midsomer Norton Town Park that takes place on the first Saturday of every month. Organised by the Welton Church Runners and supported by the Midsomer Norton Town Council. Register at the Race Nation website.
Thursday 8th January – Dave Jones Prom Run, Race 5/9, Weston-Super-Mare. A flat and fast five mile race covering two laps of Weston’s promenade. Visit the Weston Athletic Club website for full details.
Thursday 8th January – NIGHT RACE – Wye Valley & Piercefield Park, Chepstow. 5-6 miles of mainly grassy terrain. PLenty of parking at Chepstow Racecourse and hot drinks, cakes and medal at the finish. Visit the Rogue Runs website for details and entry.
Wednesday 14th January – Street 5k Series 4/6, Somerset. This 5k series takes place every month through the autumn and winter in Street, nr Glastonbury. The route comprises of 5x1k laps on open roads. Limited on the day entries available, or you can sign up at the Wells City Harriers website.
Saturday 17th January – NIGHT RACE – Dark Skies Night Run Series: Storm the Fort. 5km and 10km options. Run up Brean Down, a peninsula between Weston-Super Mare & Brean, and all the way to the 19th century fort. Find out more at the Channel Events website. Read the race review here.
Saturday 17th January – ULTRA – Backyard Ultra, Bristol. This one is organised by Left Handed Giant Run Club. You’ll need your road shoes as you run a four mile loop, on the hour, every hour, for 12 hours, totalling 48 miles (78k)! This year they’ve also introduced a 6-hour version, making it a slightly more manageable 24 miles (39k). Sign up now at Eventbrite.
Sunday 18th January – Speedway 10k, Chepstow. One for the speedier runners. In the organisers words: “A race for racers. No fluff. Flat and fast course. Chip timing. Cheap entry. Cash prizes. Get the job done. PB. Boom.” The target market for this race is those who can go sub-40mins, and ideally sub-38 for women and sub-35 for men. Sunday 18th January – Thornbury Running Club, Riverbank Rollick. Starts in Thornbury (north of Bristol), just under 10 miles and 80% off road. Find out more at the Thornbury Running Club website. This race is supported by our good friends at Kinisi Run Hub.
Sunday 18th January – Linda Franks 5 Mile, Cheltenham. A 5-mile road race on quiet, residential roads. Currently sold out, but full details available at the Almost Athletes website.
Sunday 18th January – Kymin Winter Race, Monmouth. A four mile trail race and the only event we’ve found that includes sausage and chips in the £8 entry fee! It may be a short distance, but it’s a fell race so prepare for some hills. Organised by the MonRoss Trailblazers, all the details are on the Fell Race website.
Sunday 25th January – The Boddington 10, Cheltenham. A four-lap road race on quiet country roads. Visit the CLC Striders website for the details.
Sunday 25th January – Lliswerry 8, Newport. This 8 miler is described as the ‘flattest race on the planet’. It’s run on country roads around villages outside Newport in South Wales. Find out more at the Lliswerry Runners website. And it’s an extra special even in 2026 as it’s the 40th edition of the race.
Sunday January 25th – Chepstow Running Festival, Chepstow Racecourse. You’ll find 5km, 10km, Half Marathon options at this well organised event, running laps around the racecourse (which isn’t as flat as you might expect). Find out more at the Run Through website.
Sunday January 25th – Longleat 10k, Wiltshire. Traffic-free race with a 2-mile fun run at the same time. Definitely not flat. Organised by 2:09 Events, you can sign up at the official website.
Saturday 31st January – Dry Run 2026, Bristol. A team event which involves self-navigating to different venues in Bristol to try low/non-alcoholic drinks. Head back to the start HQ for a mini-rave to celebrate. Visit the Runners to Ravers website for all the details.
Saturday 31st January – Mayhill Massacre, nr Gloucester. 7-8 mile tough cross country run featuring muddy trails and tough climbs up Mayhill. The YPB Events website has all the details and entry.

Sunday 1st February – Mayhill Mayhem, nr Gloucester. Run the same route at the Mayhill Massacre (the day before), except do the loop twice. Totalling 14-15 miles of muddy trails and tough climbs. Visit the YPB Events website for full details.
*Sunday 1st February – Brian J Gough Reverse 10, nr Caerphilly. A 10-mile mixed terrain course through Parc Penallta, starting and finishing at Penallta House, Tredomen Park. The course is undulating with one uphill/downhill section. Visit the Pontypridd Roadents website for full details.
Sunday 1st February – The Slaughterford 9, Chippenham. A 9-mile road and trail race through the Slaughterford Valley. There are hills! Full info at the Chippenham Harriers website.
Sunday 1st February – The Cardiff Winter Warmer, Cardiff. 5k, 10k & half marathon options on a flat course mainly run on paths. Full details available at the Fix Events website. The event supports the charity Shelter.

Sunday 8th February – Westonbirt Arboretum, Glos. As with the night version of this race, there’s 5k and 10k routes around the beautiful setting of Westonbirt. Get signed up at the Relish Running website.
Sunday 8th February – The Wiltshire 10, Melksham, Wiltshire. A fast, 10 mile, road race through rural Wiltshire, taking in the picturesque village of Lacock. Red Fish events are now running this one, taking over from Stampede Sports. You can enter now at Entry Central.
Sunday 8th February – Doynton Hard Half Marathon (just outside Bristol). Muddy, hilly and challenging according to the race organisers. This one usually sells out fast so get involved while you still can. Visit the official website for more information.
Sunday 8th February – Lungbuster 2025, Broad Hinton, Wiltshire. A 9-mile off-road race, on tracks through woodland and fields. Includes the famous Lungbuster Hill! And new for 2026, there’s now a 5-mile route too. Visit the Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds website for more info.
Sunday 8th February – The Wiltshire 10, Melksham. A fast, 10 mile, road race through rural Wiltshire, starting in Melksham. Previously organised by Stampede Sports, it’s now in the safe hands of Red Fish Events. You can find out more at Entry Central.

Sunday 15th February – Pontypool 10k Home Run, South Wales. An undulating road race organised by St David’s Hospice Care. More details at their website.
Sunday 15th February – The Dursley Dozen, Gloucestershire. A 12-mile (not 12 hills!) running race across demanding terrain including hills, woodland, open country, mud, roads, more mud, more hills, and gravel paths! Sunday 22nd February – Ironwood Challenge, Long Ashton (Bristol). Six(ish) country miles of trails through ancient woodland, fields and forest above the village of Long Ashton in North Somerset. Visit the Nailsea Running Club website for full details.
Sunday 22nd February – The Two Tunnels, Bath. Choose from 500m/2k colour run, 5k, 10k & Half Marathon. The February edition also offers the choice of the ‘return ticket’ 10k and half (you stick to the paths) or the ‘hilly ticket’ (you hit some trails). *Sunday 22nd February – The Terminator, Wiltshire. You’ll have to travel a little further for this one as it’s in Pewsey in Wiltshire (80min drive from Bristol). But in return you get tough but scenic 12 mile, multi-terrain course. Visit the Pewsey Vale Running Club website for details.
Sunday 22nd February – Babcary Race 2025, Babcary (between Street and Yeovil). Part of the Somerset Series, it covers 7.5miles of undulating roads. Visit the Wells City Harriers website all the details.
Sunday 22nd February – Cirencester 10k, Gloucestershire. Described as “an exciting closed-road race through the historic market town of Cirencester, in the heart of the Cotswolds”. Visit the Run Cirencester website for full details.

Sunday 1st March 2025 – ULTRA – The Imber Ultra, Wiltshire. A 33-mile trail run starting in Westbury in Wiltshire, organised by the Avon Valley Runners. More details at the official website.
Sunday 1st March – City of Newport Half Marathon. A road race in around Newport, South Wales. Full information at the official website.
Sunday 1st March – Jenner Jog, Berkeley, Gloucestershire. A UK Athletics measured 10k chip-timed road event starting at the Jenner Museum in Berkeley Town centre, the iconic birthplace of the vaccination. Organised by the New Berkeley Harriers run club, you can enter at Race Nation.
Sunday 1st March – ULTRA – The Barry 40, South Wales. A 40 mile track ultra, with a marathon option now available. Organised by Les Croupiers Running club but details hosted on the Cardiff Running Events website. Places are limited, so if running round in circles for hours is your thing, sign up now.
Friday 6th March – Sunday 8th March – ULTRA – The Tunnel Ultra, Bath. Not one for the novice runners! A 55-hour, 200 mile ultra, run up and down one of the Coombe Down tunnels. Flat and dark with plenty of sensory deprivation, you need to have run at least one 100-miler previously to be allowed to enter. Visit the Cockbain Events website for all the details.
Saturday 7th March – ULTRA – The Winter Green Man Ultra, Bristol. A 45 mile/72k off-road loop of Bristol. The event is self-navigation and must be completed within 12 hours. A 30 mile option is also available. The full details are available at the official website.

Saturday 21st March – Spring Equinox 6 Mile Trail Run, Caldicot, South Wales. A spectacular 6 Mile Trail Race in the picturesque and beautiful Wentwood Forest. Running on forestry tracks and bridleways, immerse yourself in the stunning scenery as you challenge yourself on this undulating course. Visit the Caerleon Running Club website for full details.
Saturday 21st March – Bratton Hilly 11k, Wiltshire. A challenging, multi-terrain run starting in Bratton, near Westbury in Wiltshire. Organised by Redfish Events with full details available at Entry Central.
Sunday 22nd March – Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon. 13 miles of forest trails. Open to all but also an official British Trail Running Championship event. Full details at the official website.
Sunday 22nd March – Highworth 5 Mile Road Race, Wiltshire. A scenic 5-mile loop on open, country roads. Apparently there is a ‘sting in the tail’ at four miles – at a guess that’s probably going to a rather nasty hill. This is Race 1 in the Wiltshire Road Race League 2025. Sunday 22nd March – Gloucester Half Marathon & 10k, Gloucester. A scenic route starting and ending in central Gloucester. Head to the official website for more details.
Sunday 22nd March – Devizes Half Marathon, Wiltshire. Described as ‘undulating’, this single-loop road race starts and finishes in central Devizes. Visit the official website to enter.
*Sunday 22nd March – The Humdinger & Hurtle, Broomfield, near Bridgwater. The Humdinger is just over 13.5 miles while the Hurtle is around 6.5 miles. They’re road races, but prepare for some hills! Visit the Running Forever Running Club website for entry.
Saturday 28th March – ULTRA – Beyond Bristol. A new multi-terrain event with 55km and 29km options. Both routes start and end in Bristol City Centre. Visit the Beyond Trails website for more information and sign up.
Saturday 28th March – ULTRA – Bath 50 Ultra Challenge, Bath. A 50km looped route starting and ending at Bath Racecourse. If 50k is a bit too much, there are also 25k and 10k loop options too. Visit the Ultra Challenge website for full info and entry.
Sunday 29th March – The Bristol Running Show. The third year of the show, held at the BAWA Centre in Filton. Free event but tickets are required. Visit the official website for details.

*Sunday 29th March – San Domenico 20/10 Miler, Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. A one or two loop undulating road race along the Taff Trail. Organised by the San Domenico Run Club, you can find out more at their website.
Sunday 29th March – Spring Clock Change Challenge, Calne, Wiltshire. 10k, 5k and 1.5k fun run options. While this is a family event, it’s flat and fast and can offer serious PB potential. Organised by Wiltshire Council.

Friday 3rd April – Westonbirt House Easter Half Marathon & 10k. A pretty flat route for both races, run on roads around Westonbirt (note – these races are not in the Arboretum). Visit the i-Compete website to enter.
Saturday 4th April – Midsomer Norton Town Park 5k Run, Somerset. This is a free, timed 5k Community Run in Midsomer Norton Town Park that takes place on the first Saturday of every month. Organised by the Welton Church Runners and supported by the Midsomer Norton Town Council. Register at the Race Nation website.
Sunday 5th April – The Bristol Brabazon Half Marathon & 10k, north Bristol. It’s a flat course starting at the Aztec Lakes close to the site of the Brabazon Arena in north Bristol. Visit the official website for all the details and entry.
Sunday 5th April – The Hanham Horror, Bristol. A 9k multi-terrain race through woodlands and along towpaths. There’s even a rope climb just before the finish! This race usually offers one of the best medals you’ll have in your collection! The race is organised by Bitton Road Runners but you can get more details at the Bitton Road Runners website. (Note: this is Easter Sunday)
*Monday 6th April – The Gilwern Grunt, Monmouthshire. A 5-6 mile trail race which takes in some pretty interesting landscapes. Just before the finish you have to go up and over the ‘volcano’. Visit the Rogue Runs website for more details.
Monday 6th April – Shapwick Bunny Hop, nr Glastonbury. A 7.5 mile multi-terrain event on the lanes and footpaths around Shapwick and Shapwick Heath. Full details at the Street Striders website.
*Wednesday 8th April – YTRRC Summer 5k Series 1/6, Yeovil. A flat and fast race course with PB potential. Visit the Yeovil Town Road Running Club website for full details.
Thursday 9th April – Dave Jones Prom Run, Race 8/9, Weston-Super-Mare. A flat and fast five mile race covering two laps of Weston’s promenade. Visit the Weston Athletic Club website for full details.
*Saturday 11th April – Steaming to the Coast, Minehead. One of the more unusual races in the South West. Whether you chose the full marathon, 11-mile or 11k route, all entrants (if you applied early enough) will ride on a vintage steam train to the three different start lines and then take part in a trail race back to the finish. A race as unusual as this could only be brought to you by the team at Channel Events.
Sunday 12th April – The Big Cheese, Cheddar (Somerset). 15 mile trail run with some serious hills – over 2000 feet of hill climbing, making it a category B fell race. Visit the Cheddar Running Club website for full details. Part of the Somerset Series.
Sunday 12th April – The Kymin Dash, Monmouth (South Wales). A 7 mile trail run through the scenic Wye Valley. Organised by the Spirit of Monmouth Running Club.
Sunday 12th April – Lightning Bolt 10k, Race 1, nr Chippenham. A fast and flat 10k run on country roads (I got my PB there!). Visit the i-Compete website to enter.
Sunday 12th April – Tewkesbury Half Marathon, Gloucestershire. A closed-road race set in one of England’s most historic and picturesque riverside towns. Organised by Future Sports Events, you can enter now at the Run Teweksbury website.
Sunday 12th April – The Berkeley 10k, Gloucestershire. Run on quiet and flat country lanes. Visit the Dursley Running Club website for full details.
Wednesday 15th April – South Wales 200. A 200 mile/5 day trail run across South Wales. Starting in Chepstow and finishing just outside Swansea, you’ll have to deal with 30,000 feet of climbing! Visit the Wild Horse website for all the info.
Saturday 18th April – Bristol Track Club 5k, Odd Down Cycle Circuit, Bath. This event, which is backed by Pro-Direct and On, attracts some of the fastest runners in the country. And they live stream some of the races. Visit the Bristol Track Club website to find out more.
*Sunday 19th April – Illminster 10k, Illminster. Formerly known as the Minster Milers’ Mash, The Ilminster 10k is an undulating course that takes in the beautiful South Somerset countryside including the magnificent backdrop of the Dillington Estate finishing through the historic Ilminster Town Square. Sunday 19th April – MARATHON + ULTRA – Bath & Bristol Railway Races. Someone has finally taken advantage of the amazing Bristol-Bath cycle path to put on a range of distance races. 10k, Half, 25k, Marathon & 50k distances all available. Visit the Relish Running website to sign up.
Sunday 19th April – Frenchay 10k, Bristol. One of the oldest 10k races in the country, with the first one being run back in 1980. It’s a traffic-free road race and every finisher will receive a Frenchay 10k Mug. Full details and entry here.
Sunday 19th April – MARATHON – Newport Marathon Festival, South Wales. Marathon, half marathon, 10k and one-mile fun run options. Road marathons are pretty rare in this area, but this is one of the best. Fast, flat and very well organised. Find out more at the official website. Sunday 19th April – The Bluebell Blunder, nr Chepstow. An off-road 7k(ish), just north of Chepstow in the Wye Valley. Visit the Rogue Runs website.
Thursday 23rd April – Severn Bridge 5 ‘Twlight’ Race. A five mile race that starts on the Chepstow side of the Severn Bridge. Run along the path to the England side, loop round and back to the start. Timed for when the sun is setting which can be pretty spectacular. Sign up now at the Rogue Runs website.
*Saturday 25th April – ULTRA – SPECIAL OFFER – The Medieval Backyard Ultra, nr Cardiff. You’ll run 4.1 miles, on the hour, every hour, until only one runner remains. *Sunday 26th April – ULTRA – Eastnor Castle Backyard Ultra, Herefordshire. 8 hours of running a 4.167 mile lap every hour on the hour. Complete 8 hours and you will run 33 miles. As well as the solo race there is also a team relay option. Visit the Relish Running website for full details and entry.
Saturday 25th April – ULTRA – Butcombe Trail Ultramarathon, Somerset. This year there is a 50-mile or 50km option that will take you up and down the Mendip Hills, starting and finishing at the Mendip Activity Centre near Churchill in Somerset. Saturday 25th April – Kolor Dash, Newport. 5k charity colour fun-run around Tredegar Park raising money for St David’s Hospice Care.
Saturday 25th April – MARATHON – The Bath Beat, Bath. A running and walking event with options for 12.5, 17, 21 and 26.5 miles. The trail route uses public footpaths, farmland and tow paths to take you around Bath and the surrounding countryside and villages. Find out more at the official website.
Saturday 25th April – Frome Valley 10k, Bristol. Confusingly, this race is no where near Frome in Somerset. Instead, it takes place on the roads and trails around Winterbourne, just north of Bristol. All money raised will go to support Elm Park Primary School. There’s also a colour run fr kids. Enter now at Eventbrite.
*Sunday 26th April – Eastnor Mud Bath (3k, 6k, 10k), Herefordshire. Mud, hills and natural obstacles. Get involved at the Relish Running website.

*Saturday 9th May – ULTRA – Westcountry Ultra Hilly 50 Miler, Somerset. This race starts and ends in Minehead. You’ll be rewarded with some spectacular scenery, but you’ll pay for it with 7,337 feet of elevation, more than three times more than the flat version of the race. Starting in Taunton and ending in Minehead, this race combines the hilly route and the flat route (see above) into one giant 100 mile race. Sunday 18th October – Cardiff Taff Trail Half Marathon, Cardiff. Despite its name, this is an ‘out and back’ race run almost entirely on tarmac paths. Visit the Cardiff Running Events website.
Sunday 25th October – Spring Clock Change Challenge, Calne, Wiltshire. 10k, 5k and 1.5k fun run options. While this is a family event, it’s flat and fast and can offer serious PB potential. Organised by Wiltshire Council.
Thursday 29th October – NIGHT RACE – Severn Bridge Five Night Race, Halloween Special. A five mile race along the sides of the Severn Bridge. Starts an ends in a large tunnel which generates a great atmosphere, pre and post-run. Visit the Rogue Runs website.

Saturday 7th November – Midsomer Norton Town Park 5k Run, Somerset. This is a free, timed 5k Community Run in Midsomer Norton Town Park that takes place on the first Saturday of every month. Saturday 14th November – NIGHT RACE – Skyline Night Race, Bath. Headtorches at the ready for this cracking trail race which offers some great views across Bath. 5km & 10km options available. There is mix of solid stone paths, woodland trails and open grass meadows, expect some puddles and muddy sections. The routes are largely flat, with only a couple of little rises and falls.
