Today I raced at the 10k race at Cheddar Gorge, an event organised by Relish Running. There was also a 6k, half marathon, marathon and omnium taking place on the same day.

From start to finish, the experience was a blend of stunning scenery, a challenging course, and a welcoming atmosphere.

The event village was well set up in a spacious field, and the race finished in the centre. There was parking in a field located just a short walk away.

Upon arrival, there was clear signage and genuinely friendly and encouraging marshals – a great start to any race day.

The event village itself had a few food stalls and seating areas for supporters.

Shaded tents offered a respite from the sun, and while there was a short queue for the dozen or so portaloos, it was nothing unexpected. The overall vibe was family-friendly with a buzz.

The course itself lived up to its billing as a challenging trail run.

As expected for Cheddar Gorge, it was hilly, with stunning views. There were sections of welcome shade and some technical downhill stretches.

While the signage on the course was occasionally a little confusing, and my watch measured the distance about 200m ahead of the signs, these minor discrepancies didn’t detract from the experience.

What stood out were the supportive marshals placed throughout the route. There were two well-stocked water and snack points – which was more than sufficient for a 10k.

At times, the trail narrowed, making overtakes a bit tricky for faster runners, but again, this is par for the course in a trail race and added to the authentic feel of the event.

In summary, the Relish Running 10k at Cheddar Gorge is a really fun, family-friendly event. It’s not just enjoyable for competitors but also for supporters, with plenty of refreshments and a vibrant atmosphere.

The race is well-supported on the course – big thanks to the marshals.

I would recommend the experience for anyone looking for a challenging yet rewarding trail run in a beautiful setting.
